Sanitation Department

The City of Loris contracts with Jordan Waste for solid waste collection.  This collection includes residential and business customers. 

Yard Debris:  The City offers leaf and limb (yard debris) pickup, limited to residents only within the Loris city limits.  Yard debris is defined as normal seasonal yard trimmings and prunings in reasonable quantities (grass clippings, leaves, tree trimmings, etc.).  All limbs, branches, etc., must be cut in lengths less than five (5’) feet and be less than six (6”) inches in diameter.  Citizens must call City Hall to request this service.

• Yard waste generated by landscape contractors, tree services, etc., is NOT picked up by the City, and must be disposed of by the contractor performing the work.
• The City will NOT pick up abnormal quantities of trimmings.  Any lot clearing, tree removals, or stumps MUST be transported to the dump by the owner or contractor.
• Any yard debris illegally placed for pickup, and the person(s) and/or property owner allowing such are in violation of the City’s ordinances and is subject to punishment as prescribed.

Building/Construction Waste:  The City does not haul building waste from construction or repair projects.  Residents needing disposal of large quantities of construction/renovation building waste must haul the debris directly to the landfill.  

• Contractors are responsible for the transportation and disposal of all waste created by their activities. 
• Any building/construction waste illegally placed for pickup, and the person(s) and/or property owner allowing such are in violation of the City’s ordinances and is subject to punishment as prescribed.

Prohibited Waste:  In addition to the items prohibited above, the City will NOT pick up bulky items (furniture, appliances, etc.) and is strictly prohibited from picking up hazardous materials, medical waste, and automotive waste (batteries, oil, etc.).  The owner is responsible for the proper disposal of these items.

• Any prohibited waste placed for pickup is illegal, and the person(s) and/or property owner allowing such will be subject to applicable penalties under the City’s Code of Ordinances.
